Prof. Islam visited Afghanistan at a time when the world was being fed, on a much larger scale than now, with an incongruous admixture of utter untruths, distorted facts and wild speculations about that trouble-ridden country. He is undeniably the first, and so far the only, non-official to visit that country since the entry of Soviet troops there into which sparked off a flurry of protests and denunciations all over the non-socialist world. His account of things as seen, and the conditions as observed, by him over there may, therefore, be taken to be broadly authentic.
On his return from Afghanistan he narrated his experiences and observations in a press conference. But his narration received a very poor coverage in the national press though most of its components are stuffed daily with concocted news on Afghanistan doled out by the western publicity medias. Hence this book at the request of those who yet care for truth.
