Peter Sprent was born in Australia in 1923 and now an adopted Scot who has lived in the ancient Kingdom of Fife since 1967. He is Emeritus Professor of Statistics at the University of Dundee and sees retirement as the to do the things one really likes/ Stimulated by experience as a consultant in fields ranging from agriculture and biology to industry and commerce, his mission is to take the mystery out of mathematics and the stuffines out of statistics. He is the author of Statistics in Action, Quick Statistics, Understanding Data and Taking Risks, all published by Penguin, and has written elementary and advanced text and numerous papers for professional journal.
Peter Sprent is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and member oof the International Statistical Institute and other professional bodies. His hobbies incluide hillwalking, flying and golf, but he confesses his scores at that game would bring joy to a first - class cricketer.
